Physical activity is essential for a child’s development and lays the foundation for a healthy and active life. Regular physical activity can help to:

  • Develop strong muscles and bones
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes
  • Help achieve better sleep
  • Improve balance, coordination and strength
  • Maintain and develop flexibility
  • Improve posture
  • Encourage positive mental health

It can also aid in improving confidence and self-esteem and teaching children important life skills.

Here are just a few ways to help your child stay fit and healthy at David Lloyd Clubs, as well as help inspire a love of exercise:

Get active as a family

If you’re able to, a great way to inspire your child to be active, is by exercising as a family. Children learn by example – by watching you exercise they’ll learn healthy habits.

You can take a swim together, play a game of tennis, or try one of our fun family activities such as Battlebox Family Play. In this outdoor family workout for adults and children aged 8+, you’ll work together in a fun environment to build teamwork, speed, agility, balance and movement. If your children are old enough, you could look into the many ways to get the started at the gym.

Encourage them to play a sport

One of the best ways to inspire your children to love exercise is to help them find a sport or activity they’re passionate about and enjoy doing.

We offer a number of sports-based activities at David Lloyd Clubs including tennis. Our Junior Tennis Coaching is LTA-endorsed and offers your child the opportunity to learn a fantastic life-long sport and develop essential skills.  Our weekly lessons are packed with top-quality, world-class content that will get your child improving quickly, developing fitness, and having fun at the same.

Try a fun class at David Lloyd

We offer fun and diverse tailored classes for two age groups – 5 to 7 and 8 to 11 – so your child will be surrounded by children of a similar age and abilities. Classes will help your child to learn new skills, make new friends and stay active.

Try a class such as Action Squad, which includes team games, sports challenges, blasts of fitness and pumping music, or Sports Squad, where each week children learn the rules of different sports, carry out drills and play games.

Take to the water

Our clubs are kitted out with heated indoor and outdoor pools, trained lifeguards and expert instructors, so there’s no better place for your child to get splashing. Have fun messing around as a family, or sign up to individual lessons, group classes or our All Stars kids swimming programmes.

Swimming is vital skill with numerous benefits for children and our world-class junior swim programme follows the Swim England Swimmer Pathway which helps kids of all abilities develop a full range of swimming strokes and water skills. They’ll become competent, confident and safe swimmers who can use breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and front crawl.
