New to the gym and feeling daunted by all the different equipment that’s available? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. With so many different pieces of unfamiliar equipment around, it’s normal to feel unsure of where and how to begin. That’s why on National Fitness Day, we’ve asked some of our expert Personal Trainers to show you how to use some of the newest and most popular equipment in a David Lloyd gym correctly and effectively.

In this series, find out how to use 3 different pieces of equipment that build strength and provide a full-body workout.  Discover the unique benefits of each piece of kit and learn how to use it correctly to ensure you avoid injuries and achieve maximum results.

Let’s get started:

The kettlebell

The kettlebell is one of the most versatile pieces of kit in the gym. It can be used to perform a number of diverse exercises at different levels. Watch Alpha, a Personal Trainer at Harbour Club Kensington, illustrate the goblet squat.

The TRX row

The TRX is an excellent low-impact piece of equipment that can be used in multiple ways to target different muscle groups, build strength and improve cardio fitness. Here, Geoff, part of the team at David Lloyd Bolton, shows us how to do the low row.

The barbell deadlift

The squat rack is one of the most popular areas in the gym – and for good reason! Here, you can perform a number of different barbell lifts that will build strength in multiple muscle groups. Watch Holly from David Lloyd Chorley illustrate how to set up the barbell safely and perform one of the most effective exercises out there – the barbell deadlift.

So there you have it – 3 more exercises to add to your routines in the gym. If you have any questions about any of the equipment in your local club, one of the expert trainers on the gym floor will always be happy to help you.
