A good work-life balance is something many of us want — but it’s not necessarily easy to achieve. That’s because, all too often, the work part of the equation encroaches on the life bit.
The main culprit: endless meetings. According to our recent survey, 80% of us spend up to five hours straight in meetings on an average day.
And these meetings can seriously impact our wellbeing. 23% of those we surveyed said that meetings reduce the amount of time available for doing important tasks, and 22% blamed them for increasing stress levels.
What’s more, in an average week we spend over three hours working outside our contracted hours. It’s no wonder that 66% of our survey respondents said they’d take part in more fitness and wellness activities if only their job didn’t get in the way.
So how can we make more time for wellness? The answer lies in a snackable approach.
“Incorporating short bursts of wellness throughout the day can add up to a much-improved way of life overall,” says Andrea Dearden, Marketing Director at David Lloyd Clubs. “We believe pockets of wellness throughout the day make all the difference to our overall wellbeing.”
Wellness and psychology expert Dr Sophie Mort agrees.
“Rather than starting the new year with unrealistic goals, it’s far more beneficial to form healthy habits that integrate seamlessly into our lifestyles, improving wellness over the long term,” she says.
“Wellness doesn’t have to mean long stints in the gym or pool.
“Studies have shown that short ‘snackable’ bursts of activity — as little as 10 minutes throughout the day — can be incredibly effective for both our health and productivity.
“This approach makes exercise more accessible and sustainable — small but consistent efforts add up over time.”
Would you wear a Swim Suit?
To save you from having to choose between work and working out, we’re unveiling the ‘Swim Suit’ collection, to help you get from dip to desk in a matter of minutes.
That’s Swim Suit, not swimsuit. Created with cutting-edge fabrics, the ground-breaking hydrophobic clothing collection stays dry after a swim. That means, in theory, you could skip the changing rooms and head straight from the pool to work, bone-dry and ready for a meeting or video call.
It’s workout wear, but not as you know it, with three key looks: a classic, sleek suit, a jumpsuit, and a sports-luxe polo shirt and trousers — perfect for any work environment.
The Swim Suit collection is just on trial for now, so keep your eyes peeled for more news, but remember we do still have amazing workstations at many of our clubs. These adults-only zones make it easy to get on with both working and working out at David Lloyd Clubs.
As Andrea explains: “More and more members are basing themselves from our workstations, and dipping in and out of the pool, gym, group classes, Spa Retreats or Padel courts throughout the day, making work life much more balanced.”
