Healthy Halloween snacks: Treats that scream deliciousness

It’s that spooky time of year again! Halloween has arrived, bringing with it creepy costumes, gruesome games and a parade of sweet treats that are almost impossible to resist.

But fear not, because Halloween can still be fun and flavourful without overloading on sugar. Whether you’re sticking to a healthier diet yourself or trying to show your kids healthier snacks, here are some frightfully good alternatives to the usual sweets and chocolate.

A spell of pumpkin seeds

Roasted pumpkin seeds can be your next spooktacular snack, and they’re very easy to make. Simply dust them with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon to create a chocolatey or warmly spiced bite without the added sugar.

Boo-nana ghosts

With bananas as your creepy canvas and berries as your decor, banana ghosts can be both a fun Halloween activity and a sweet, healthy snack. Simply peel bananas, cut them in half, use blueberries for eyes and say hello to friendly ghosts that are high in potassium!

Mini pumpkins

Clementines or tangerines can easily be transformed into mini pumpkins with a bit of celery stick poked into the top as a stem. These clementine pumpkins are adorable, sweet and packed with vitamin C.

A pop of seasonal flavour

For a crunchy snack with a flicker of Halloween spirit, swap caramel popcorn for plain or lightly salted popcorn. Sprinkle it with a ghostly dust of cinnamon or use matcha powder to tint it a ghoulish green.

Ghostly gourmet

Serve pumpkin hummus in a small, hollowed-out pumpkin surrounded by carrot and cucumber sticks for a seasonal culinary centrepiece. This savoury dip is perfect for healthy snacking throughout your Halloween events.

Apple fangs

Carve little mouths into apple slices and use almonds or sunflower seeds as teeth to create delightful apple monsters. They’re a crisp, juicy and silly addition to your Halloween spread.

Wicked woods

Channel your inner artist and craft a spooky forest with dark chocolate bark adorned with almonds and seeds. This ghostly landscape features a healthier type of chocolate that’s rich in antioxidants.

Haunted peppers

Transform stuffed peppers into cute little jack-o-lanterns by carving them and filling them with a healthy stuffing of your choice. Think quinoa, black beans and diced veggies for a savoury snack that could even double as a quick and easy meal before a night of trick-or-treating.

Cheesecake charm

A healthy pumpkin cheesecake, made with reduced sugar and a nutty, wholegrain base, brings the spirit of indulgence to your party without the sugar rush of a regular cheesecake.

Have a hauntingly good time

Halloween is about fun, imagination and a little bit of mischief — and reducing your sugar intake doesn’t have to change that. Whether you try out these bewitching alternatives or stick to traditional snacks, the key is to enjoy yourself on the spookiest night of the year.
