Playlist: The best 130 bpm songs for running and workouts

Listening to music is one of the easiest ways to regulate – and improve – your running cadence. The idea is to match your steps per minute (spm) to the song’s beats per minute (bpm). Of course, the bpm you’re looking for depends on the cadence you’re aiming for, which is why we’ve put together a series of bpm playlists – including this 130pm playlist.

130 bpm songs are ideal if you’re new to running or returning after a break. This cadence should give you a relatively forgiving pace, just above a power walk.

Once you’ve built up your confidence, you can always start to increase your cadence with our 160 bpm playlist, our 170 bpm playlist and eventually our 180 bpm playlist. Want to take it down a bit? We also have a 100 bpm playlist and a 120 bpm playlist.

For now, though, let’s get going with our 130 bpm playlist. We’ve chosen these songs to be as close as possible to 130 bpm, give or take a few beats.

And important as bpm may be, we also took into account the motivational power of each song. After all, you want to be listening to tracks that’ll power you through that last kilometre. It’s an eclectic mix, with ’70s rock royalty rubbing shoulders with ’90s bangers and the best of today’s new uplifting sounds. Enjoy!
