Creative activity for kids – Drive in movie

Although keeping active is important while the kids are at home it’s also vital that they have time for some creativity skills. Creative experiences can help children express and cope with their feelings as well as providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, and new ways of thinking and problem-solving.

With this in mind we’ve come up with a great way you can get your child’s creative flair flowing at home! All you’ll need to get started is:

  • A cardboard box
  • Junk modelling material – buttons, jar lids, tissue paper etc.
  • Glue
  • Paint or colouring pens/pencils
  • Scissors
  • Any suitable recycling materials will also work

STEPS TO CREATE YOUR CAR

1. Give your child a large box big enough for them to sit in; this will be their car.

2. They will need to unfold the top of the box and cut off the folded flaps so they are able to get into it. Test out sitting in the box to make sure it is big enough.

3. They now have the chance to personalise their car. They will need to give it a paint job for the main body of colour. They might want to add stripes, a number or glitter, or maybe even their name?

4. You can use paper plates to create wheels stuck on the side and for their steering wheel.

5. Tin foil from the kitchen will make great headlights and straws for radio antennas.

6. Encourage your child to be creative and imaginative with this. They could even make a futuristic car with rocket boosters!

7. Use materials you have spare in the house, this is your time to be as creative as you like!

8. MOVIE TIME! – Put a movie on the tv and let the children sit in front of the TV in their car, just like a real drive in cinema!

Cooking together as a family is another great way for your children to learn vital new skills. Take a look at some the dishes you could try here.
