Cycle tracking
Tracking your cycle via a health tracker (e.g. Apple Health, Oura etc) is effective (as is pen and paper!). Clue is our recommended app for menstrual tracking:
– Data is protected under EU privacy laws.
– In the US, Clue has pledged to protect user data, regardless of political changes.
– Data is only used with your explicit permission and solely to support women’s health research.
What to look for in a tracking app
- Historical data review
• Can you easily view past months to spot patterns?
• Reviewing previous cycles helps identify:
o Physical and emotional symptoms related to your cycle
o Patterns connected to life events or stressors - Expert-led advice
• Does the app offer advice based on your data?
• Before following it, check if it’s:
o Created or backed by health professionals
o Transparent about how it interprets your data
Remember:
o AI can only learn from what you input, not what’s happening inside your body
o Advice shouldn’t override your own body signals or intuition
o You are the expert on your body - Supports conversation
• Does the app help open up conversations, or shut them down?
• Apps that share data with a PT or partner might seem helpful but:
o Could become a substitute for meaningful discussions
o Talking openly about your cycle is key to reducing stigma and improving understanding of your health
