It’s the time of year when many of us look for ways to improve our well-being. We’re trying to boost our energy, enhance our mood and feel better overall.
There’s a good way to help with these aims (and more): Personal Training.
But not everyone knows exactly what to expect from a session. In fact, there are some misconceptions about Personal Training that can make it difficult to take that first step and book, whether you’re worried about over-zealous trainers or assume you need a certain level of fitness.
We can’t speak for all gym chains, but we can tell you how Personal Training works at David Lloyd Clubs. Here are five key things to know about our approach to Personal Training.
1. Your relationship with your Personal Trainer helps your workout
Our Personal Trainers put you at ease and work closely with you to find out what you want. Their superpower? They really know how to listen.
Feeling listened to and understood can go a long way to helping you feel comfortable and confident. And that’s exactly how our Personal Trainers want you to feel.
David Lloyd Clubs member Ravir, 41, trains with Personal Trainer Max, and he credits their relationship with improving his workouts. “He’s now a mate really!” he says.
Developing a good relationship with your Personal Trainer can also make a big difference to your motivation. After all, when you enjoy the sessions, you’re more likely to keep showing up for them.
2. Personal Training is based on support
If you’ve never had a session before, it’s easy to imagine a Personal Trainer as the world’s scariest PE teacher – with their attention focused solely, and terrifyingly, on you. That’s not how we do things at David Lloyd Clubs.
Our Personal Trainers will help and support you on your fitness journey, not push you beyond endurance. With friendly encouragement, you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve.
“My Personal Trainer turns workouts into challenges, encouraging me to try new things,” says Ravir. “Thanks to him I’m in the best shape of my life.”
3. Finding a Personal Trainer is easy
At David Lloyd Clubs, you choose your own Personal Trainer – you’ll find plenty of information on the app about the Personal Trainers at your club, including their areas of expertise.
And if you feel you’re not quite gelling after a session? Our Personal Trainers totally understand that you have to find the right person for you as an individual, and they can recommend different Personal Trainers at the club with particular specialisms if you feel you need another approach.
4. Our Personal Training sessions are for all fitness levels
Our Personal Trainers know how to work with people wherever they are on their fitness journey. Like Ravir, maybe you’re a regular gym-goer who has reached a plateau – if so, reach out to a Personal Trainer.
“What I like about my programme is that it gets refreshed,” says Ravir. “It keeps things exciting – there are machines I’d never used before.”
Or maybe you’re totally new to exercise. Whatever your starting point, our Personal Trainers can create and develop a programme that lets you thrive. And they’ll keep tweaking it over time, so you don’t get bored.
5. Personal Training is about more than fitness
Personal Training isn’t simply about getting fit, whatever that may mean to you. The sessions can help you feel better in yourself, give you a confidence boost and benefit your overall well-being.
The thing about Personal Training at David Lloyd Clubs is that the sessions are totally bespoke to you and what you want to achieve. Our Personal Trainers can help you set goals if that’s what you want, but it’s not essential. There’s no such thing as a right or wrong goal – or even having a measurable goal at all!
Goals don’t have to be based on fitness. You can focus on how you feel: your general lifestyle, motivation, energy; whatever will enhance your wellness.
Whether you aim to run a marathon or want to feel generally better about life, our Personal Trainers can get you where you want to be.
David Lloyd Clubs member Kerisha, 38, is using her Personal Training sessions to help control her type 1 diabetes.
“Having type 1 diabetes is difficult to manage, but the exercise makes it easier,” she says. “The support and help and coaching have made me feel like I can do a lot more.”
