Without the routine of school, it can be tricky – to say the least – to keep the kids entertained. Boredom often sets in, and it can be a nightmare for parents to come up with different ways to keep children happy and busy (and not simply spending hours sitting in front of the TV or PlayStation!)
What’s more, the prospect of school-holiday crowds and prices means booking a summer break may not be entirely appealing. So how do you put together a less-stress summer holiday that the whole family can enjoy?

Try a new exercise class
One of the easiest ways to shake up your routine is to try a class you’ve never done before. Our HIIT classes, for example, are perfect for a high-energy, calorie-burning session. You could also discover the benefits of strength training in one of our strength-based classes, or tone and stretch your muscles in a Pilates or yoga class. And don’t forget to check out our Signature Classes, designed exclusively for David Lloyd Clubs. If your chosen Club has Battlebox, you can also enjoy amazing outdoor circuit training.

Sign the kids up to one of our fun programmes
We’re delighted to offer a variety of different programmes and activities for kids of all ages throughout the holidays, so they can stay active and learning while you have some time to yourself.
David Lloyd Kids: We try to time these sessions to match up with our group exercise classes, so you can enjoy the facilities while your kids take part in a sport, play some games or have fun in an arts and crafts session. It’s a great opportunity for them to meet new people, learn new skills, and have fun in a safe and nurturing environment.
Swimming Stars & Tennis Stars: Choose from our fantastic swimming, tennis and gymnastics programmes. Here, kids from the ages of 3-18 can learn the basics of these sports from expert coaches, having loads of fun in the process. Our programmes are endorsed by the very best in their fields – the Amateur Swimming Association, the Lawn Tennis Association and Olympic bronze medallist Beth Tweddle, so you know your kids are in great hands!
David Lloyd Clubs Kids Summer Holiday Club: Over the summer months, David Lloyd Clubs runs a fantastic Holiday Club for kids aged 5-13. For either a half or full day, your kids will enjoy an exciting mixture of sports, including swimming and tennis, as well as other activities such as arts and crafts and much more. Not only will they have plenty of fun, learning new skills and making friends along the way, they’ll also stay healthy and active over their long break. It’s the perfect way to keep the kids entertained while you have some time to yourself, and with snacks and lunch provided, you don’t have to worry about organising a thing.
Splash around in the pool
Our clubs are kitted out with heated pools – many of them both indoor and outdoor – trained lifeguards and expert instructors, so if you love swimming, there really is nowhere better. Splash around with the kids or improve your skills with lessons from our instructors. Our swimming classes cater to all ages, and you can enjoy brilliant individual lessons, group classes or our Swimming Stars programme.
Of course, you can just relax and float around! Some Clubs have outdoor pools that are just made for lounging about by on a sunny summer’s day, giving you that real holiday feeling.
Relax in the spa
While the kids run around, spend a few hours relaxing in the David Lloyd Clubs spa. Soothe tired muscles and take a break from the stress of everyday life in our state-of-the-art saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools.
Play a game of racquet sports
We offer racquets sports such as tennis, squash, badminton at the majority of our clubs, with excellent facilities, qualified coaches, competitions, weekly games and social events. If you want to try something new this summer, some clubs also have padel and pickleball!
Enjoy a game of tennis on one of our match-quality courts. You can brush up your skills beforehand with a few lessons, whether one-to-one or in a group. We run several coaching programmes, from our Fast Track course for beginners, to our On Track and Power Track programmes that help you build your game and develop your skills and confidence.
Dine and drink in our Clubroom
Our Clubrooms are the perfect place to relax as a family after a busy day and enjoy a meal. With high quality, fresh ingredients, the menu has a balanced choice of meals and snacks that are ideal for a healthy, active lifestyle. It includes delicious dishes, protein-rich food that’s perfect after you’ve been working out, a fabulous kids’ menu and some sweet treats, beer and wine. You can even pick up an ice cream!
