Our gym in Chigwell is a very friendly and close-knit club; members come together not only to work out, but to spend time with friends and be a part of the community there.
It is also home to a wide variety of excellent equipment we regularly update and add to. For this post, we asked 2 of our brilliant Chigwell members, Laura Cooper and Danielle Kelly, to illustrate how to use the latest equipment with the help of Personal Trainer Morgan Brazier.
Wellness Area

The wellness area is the ideal place to stretch and recover after a workout. It is equipped with 4 stretch machines to aid recovery and help thoroughly stretch all the main muscle groups. Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, helping to increase your range of motion, decrease the risk of injury, enhance performance, improve blood circulation and reduce stress, pain and stiffness.
In addition to the stretch machine, you’ll also find 2 electric rollers. These are excellent for aiding recovery, enhancing blood flow and targeting deep tissue. This provides myofascial and trigger point release, reducing muscle soreness and pain.
Woodway Curve Treadmills

The Woodway Curve is self-powered and has no motor, meaning you control exactly how fast or slow you run with your own body, increasing the challenge. Its curved, slatted and cushioned running deck helps to reduce the shock to joints and connective tissues, making it a better option for those with injuries or joint issues. It will help blitz calories and improve your running style and gait.
Woodway 4Front Treadmills

The 4Front is designed to mimic the feel of outdoor running while ensuring a low impact workout thanks to the cushioned running deck and increased shock absorption. Runners will feel like they’re gliding along the unique tracks.
The Woodway 4Front is used in Blaze classes.
Synrgy XL Functional Rig

This functional rig is a unique training space designed for small group exercise classes, including our Synrgy 360 classes. It houses a wide variety of diverse equipment such as water rowers, kettle bells, plyo boxes, core bags, battle ropes, medicine balls, dumbbells and punching bags.
Ski Ergs

These indoor ski cardio machines simulate the movements of real cross-country skiing to target the legs, arms, and core for a full body workout. Easy adapted to suit anyone’s size and skill level, it’s an excellent machine for building both strength and endurance and getting you fit for the slopes.
Assault Bikes

Assault bikes are the ultimate cardio and calorie-burning tool. An excellent option for high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts, they work the upper and lower body to torch calories without diminishing muscle mass. As you power the fan, it turns faster and faster, building up resistance and making your workout even harder. It’s a safe, low-impact machine that’s good for those with injuries.
Stages Solo Bikes

Stage solo bikes are the bikes we use in our spin studio. With a real bike feel, an engaging interface and accurate training feedback, it sets you up to work for 15/30/45 minutes. These bikes burn calories, build lower body muscles and don’t stress your joints.
Eleiko Open Bar

The Eleiko Elsinore XF bar is a quality bar specifically designed for tough, repetitive, high-intensity exercises. It can be used to carry out leg, push or pull sessions and target a wide range of muscle groups.
Specifically engineered for functional fitness training, it’s appropriate for a variety of lifts, allowing stable and controlled rotation and a balanced grip.

Laura and Danielle have been coming to David Lloyd Chigwell for over four years, and after meeting in-club, they’re now firm friends.
“We’ve become really good friends after meeting in the gym. We come here all the time and have a good group of friends through the gym – there’s a good family feel to it.”
We come every day and meet up with friends, have a nice coffee. It’s our favourite time of the day – coming here and having conversations with friends…. Oh, and working out.”
A massive thanks to both Laura and Danielle for their help in this post.
